newsweek: joepompeo: “I worked at Newsweek for five years. Reporters would write stories with a whole bunch of ‘tk’s so a fact checker could go do it. What kind of accountability is that? $100,000-a-year people depending on someone making $25,000 to get their story right.” — He has a good point here. Okay, so I don’t love my job. But do you have to love your job? Is that required to lead a fulfilling life? Not everybody can be an artist or a professor or what have you. Shouldn’t I just be thankful for everything I do have? Maybe I should just shut up and get back to work.
I feel like my life is out of order. I stumbled into a job I actually like straight out of college, by accident, at a time when I really needed the financial security. And I’m extremely, extremely grateful for it. I get how rare my situation is in this economy, and I know I totally lucked out. I’m saving money and chipping away at student loans. I’m not dependent on anyone. I pay...

As Skins barrels through the endless bender of its sixth season, The Guardian is reporting that Channel 4 has confirmed that the controversial series will die (probably in a car crash) in 2013. This so accurately sums up my feelings about Skins as a series, and how it managed to be SO GOOD at times and yet SO BAD at others but I still don’t really want it to end. I guess it’s...

Nobody else is more deserving of the epithet of ‘world-class songwriter.’ For five decades, Paul Simon has built bridges not only over troubled waters but over entire oceans by (re)joining the world’s continents with his music. With consummate skill, innovative arrangements and provocative lyrics that never fail to capture...
To-do list for tomorrow:
Write to-do list.
It was really hard to concentrate in class today because we were sitting outside and these two mallard ducks were either copulating vigorously or trying to drown each other, one or the other (or both). It was graphic. It was also my last day of class forever, unless I go to grad school some day. 10 pages left of education. sort of anti-climactic.
